Map Tools

Note: Until you select another Click Map To... option, the last one selected will remain the default.

 

Zoom In

The Zoom In option is the default setting for the Click Map To... tool. This option allows you to zoom in and center the map at any location that is clicked inside the map display. Each time you click inside the map, the view continues to zoom in until a different Click Map To... tool is selected. You can use the Entire State option above to return to the default state view.

Zoom Out

The Zoom Out option allows you to zoom out and center the map at any location that is clicked inside the map display. Each time you click inside the map, you will continue to zoom out unit a different Click Map To... tool is selected.

Center

The Center Map option adjusts the map by centering the display at the location clicked.

Identify Wells

The Identify Wells option allows you to click on a well to view its GIS wellbore attributes in a popup. Additional well information, if available, may be viewed by clicking on the Operator/Wellbore/PDQ, Well Logs, or Drilling Permits links located at the bottom of the popup. These links will not be available if the API number has not been identified in the GIS.

Note: Be sure to click directly on the well. If you don't, the message box below will appear.

  • Operator/Wellbore/PDQ - This popup displays completion and plugging data, if available, for the identified well. It contains a link to Production Data (PDQ) for the oil lease or gas well.

Click the Print button at the top of the popup to print the Operator/Wellbore Attributes.

The Production Data Query (PDQ) link in the Completion Data table opens a new browser window to the Commission's Interactive Online Oil & Gas Production Data Query (PDQ) system and then perform a Specific Lease Query for the most recent 12 months of production for the oil lease or gas ID specified in the Completion Information.

The Data Ranges in the Specific Lease Query can be modified to view production data for other months and years.

The Oil/Gas Imaged Records links in the Completion Data table accesses the Neubus image application. Through the Neubus screen you can view images of oil and gas records including drilling permits and plats (W-1s) filed before 5/2/2005, completion reports and attachments (W-2s and G-1s), plugging reports (W-3s), directional surveys, P-4s, and other miscellaneous documents that have been filed with the Commission.

In the future, you will also be able to view images of other forms filed with the Oil and Gas Division such as H-1s, H-5s, H-10s, and W-14s, as well as hearings files.

  • Well Logs - This popup displays well log information and a link to view any scanned well log images if available for the identified well. The Commission began scanning well logs in June of 2004. Logs will be available through this link if they were filed in or after June 2004.

To download the well log image, click the View link on the left. This brings up a Windows File Download popup which asks if you want to open the file or save it to your computer.

Click the Open button to view the well log .TIF image file, or click the Save button to save it it to your computer.

Note: the actual well log can be up to 125 feet long which may make the file size very large. TIF files can take some time to download, especially with a dial up connection. If you have problems viewing these TIF files, refer to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for suggestions.

  • Drilling Permits - This popup displays drilling permit information, if available for the identified well, using a link to the RRC Online Drilling Permit Application Query System. Drilling permit information in the online system dates back to 1977.

Identify Pipelines

The Identify Pipelines options allows you to click on a pipeline to view its attributes in a popup.

Click the Print button at the top of the popup to print the Pipeline Attributes.

There are five different types of pipelines in the State of Texas:

  • Gas Transmission
  • Crude Transmission
  • Carbon Dioxide
  • HVL Products - Highly volatile liquid products
  • Non-HVL Products - Non-highly volatile liquid products.

Identify Survey

The Identify Survey option allows you to click inside a survey to view its attributes in a popup.

Survey attributes listed in the popup are:

  • ABSTRACT_NUMBER is comprised of the county code and the abstract number. It is assigned to the surveyed parcel by the General Land Office at the time of patenting. In some instances, the abstract number may not be identified in the GIS. If so, this field will contain either a "?" indicating the abstract number was not identified, or a "U" indicating the parcel is a University Lands (UL) section.

  • LEVEL1_SURVEY_NAME is the original grantee or the block description (if applicable) as listed in the General Land Office (GLO) Abstract of Land Titles or as labeled on the GLO county map. (See Survey Name Abbreviations.)
  • LEVEL2_BLOCK_NUMBER is the number and/or letter used in describing a group of surveys identified as a "block" in the General Land Office Abstract of Land Titles or as shown on the GLO county map.
  • LEVEL3_SURVEY_NUMBER is the survey or section number.
  • LEVEL4_SURVEY_NAME is the name of the original grantee as described in the GLO Abstract of Original Land Titles if a block description is also listed for the abstract number.

Click the Print button in the top of the popup to print the Survey Attributes.

Identify LPGAS Sites

The Identify LPGAS Sites option allows you to click inside on an LPGAS site symbol to view its attributes in a popup.

LPG Site Attributes

LPGAS site attributes listed in the popup are:

  • INSTALL_ID

  • NAME - Name of the LPGAS site.
  • DESCR - The description of the LPGAS site.
  • CONTACT - Contact Name
  • PH NUMBER - Phone number of the site.
  • LOCATION - Address of the site.
  • NEAR CITY - The nearest city to the site.
  • ZIPCODE - The zipcode in which the site is located.

Click the Print button in the top of the popup to print the LPGAS site attributes.

Create 1/4-Mile Radius

The Create 1/4-Mile Radius tool allows you to draw a ¼-mile radius, shaded gray, in the map view at any location clicked. This tool can be useful when applying for an injection permit to identify wells within a ¼-mile of the proposed well location. The shaded area will remain in your display at the last location drawn until the Entire State button is selected or you close the GIS viewer window.

Create 1/2-Mile Radius

The Create 1/2-Mile Radius tool works the same as, and is used for the same purposes as the Create 1/4-Mile Radius tool. The image below shows a 1/2-mile radius drawn around a well.

WhereAmI

The WhereAmI tool provides location information for any spot on the map on which you click.

Quad Name For all locations
Quad Number For all locations
Survey Name For all locations where a survey exists.
Survey Number For all locations where a survey exists.
Survey Abstract For all locations where a survey exists.
County For locations within a county area.
County FIPS For locations within a county area.
District For locations within a county area.
Region For locations within a county area.
Bay For a location in a bay.
Bay Tract For a location in a bay.
Offshore FIPS For an offshore location.
Offshore Area For an offshore location.
Offshore Tract For an offshore location.
City Name For a location within city limits.

 

The see location information for a specific point on the map:

  1. Zoom to a specific area on the map.
  2. Select the WhereAmI tool from the Map Tools dropdown.
  3. Click on the spot on the map to see its location information. The WhereAmI Results screens is displayed.

Print Map

To print the map, click the Print button on the far right side of the functions panel. This will print the map only.
